Based in New York, Tess built her career in impact investing, later completing a masters in sustainable business models, with her thesis focusing on sustainable supply chains and regenerative sourcing. This sowed the seeds for Poetica, which seeks to reimagine wash day as a moment of aromatic indulgence that supports slow fashion. Here, Tess shares her clothing care tips and favorite ways to wear knitwear.
Where did the idea of Poetica come from?
It struck me that we buy "investment pieces" but invest very little in their care. Yet with 25% of a garment's lifecycle carbon footprint stemming from how it's cared for, laundry practices matter. Our organic, cold water-optimized Delicate Washes smell amazing and pair with our Aromatic Mists that reduce washing frequency. Clothing care becomes a moment of indulgence in a busy day.
Any tips for washing knitwear?
Always hand-wash soft knits in cool water. In general, machine washing knitwear can crush tender wool fibers, leading to a fluffy look, and warm water temperatures can distort the shape of wool."
